Meet our center physicians

Each day health center at PACE Southeast Michigan has a physician who leads care for all participants associated with that center. This group of physicians has a wide range of expertise in aging issues and works with their team of nurse practitioners to optimize the health of each participant in their care.

Dr. Katzman received his medical degree from Des Moines University in 1990 and is consistently recognized as one of the top doctors in metro Detroit by HOUR Detroit magazine in internal medicine and palliative care.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Katzman was lead investigator for a vaccine trial. His career includes decades of experience with Corewell Health, which includes time as Chief of Staff at Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital, and as an associate professor at Michigan State University. Dr. Katzman has also served on several boards, including with the American Diabetes Association, Blue Care Network Credentials Committee and Oakland County Osteopathic Medical Association.

When he isn’t working, Dr. Katzman enjoys spending time with his children, traveling and playing poker!

Dr. Rushton received her MD from the Ohio University College of Osteopathic Medicine and completed a Geriatric fellowship at the Michigan State University – Flint campus through Hurley Medical Center.

She’s been a practicing geriatrician for seven years and is a board-certified Family and Geriatric Medicine physician. As a resident, Dr. Rushton trained in Norton, Viginia at the Ballad Health System. Her undergraduate degree is from Wayne State University.

Dr. Rushton has a special passion for elder care and is an expert on Geriatric syndromes and end-of-life care. Outside of her work with PACE Southeast Michigan, she loves to teach medical students, residents and fellows about the importance of Geriatric Medicine.

Dr. Talati

Dr. Kachman is a board-certified physician in internal medicine. She attended Wayne State University School of Medicine and completed her residency at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital. She has cared for patients in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including skilled nursing facilities.

Dr. Dowers has a degree in osteopathic medicine from Michigan State University. She served her residency at the Henry Ford Macomb Hospital in the emergency department and has worked as an emergency medicine physician for the John D Dingell VA Hospital and the St. Joseph Health System.

Dr. Dowers is also a member of various medical associations including the Emergency Medical Resident Association, American College of Emergency Physicians and American College of Osteopathic Emergency Physicians.

In her free time, Dr. Dowers enjoys listening to classical and jazz music. She also enjoys cheering on the Detroit Lions, Tigers, Red Wings and Pistons.

Dr. Talati

Dr. Peter Dews is a board-certified internal medicine specialist. He completed medical school and residency at Wayne State University in Detroit.

Dr. Mohindra received her degree from Government Medical College in India and served her residency at Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital in Detroit. She has practiced medicine in Michigan since the 1970s.

Her career includes roles with Corewell Hospital in Royal Oak, Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, Henry Ford Greenfield Health System and Trinity Health Livonia.

Dr. Mohindra has published research on cancer and kidney failure, with her work on breast cancer receiving an award from Mount Carmel Mercy Hospital.

Dr. Amita Gupta is board-certified in internal medicine. She completed medical school at Lady Hardinge Medical College and her residency at St. Joseph Mercy Oakland.

Dr. Gupta is board-certified in internal medicine. She completed her medical education at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine and went on to complete her residency training at Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center.

Dr. Gupta received her degree from Mysore Medical College in India and completed her residency in internal medicine at Corewell Health Dearborn Hospital. She did her fellowship in geriatrics at the University of Texas at San Antonio. She has practiced medicine in the United States for nearly 20 years.

Throughout her career, Dr. Gupta has worked in the Trinity Health, Corewell Health and Henry Ford Health systems. She was a consultant and taught as an assistant professor at Wayne State University. Her research efforts include topics like dementia, palliative care and end-of-life care.

Dr. Gupta is a member of professional societies including the American Geriatrics Society, American College of Physicians and American Medical Association. Dr. Gupta is fluent in three languages and enjoys sketching and painting.
